Be a part of our HYS Celebration!
It’s our 45th anniversary and Maestro Henry Miyamura’s 25th anniversary with HYS. We’re offering a few ways for alumni to jump in on our celebration:
- Come see our YSI orchestra perform with Willie K on November 15 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. It’s our only fundraising event of the year and it’s going to be a spectacular show, we promise! We’d like to set up some alumni tables. So if you’re interested in attending, get more information here and download an order form. WRITE ALUMNI on the upper right corner of the form and we’ll take it from there. This will be a great way to reconnect with HYS and hear some outstanding music by some of our state’s best young musicians. You used to be one of those… remember?
- Want to send a message to Mr. Miyamura on his 25th anniversary with HYS? Or would you like to let the HYS community know what you’re up to? We’re selling ads for our Winter Concert, Spring Concert and Aloha Concert Luncheon program books to our alumni. Prices are fairly modest and your message will reach thousands of music lovers and young musicians. We can do-up the ads for you or you can send us your finished artwork. - Alumni reception. Mark your calendars for April 11, 2010, 4:00 pm. YSI, under the direction of Mr. Miyamura, will hold its annual Spring Concert at the Blaisdell Concert Hall. This performance will be PACKED with great music. The Honolulu Symphony Chorus will sing with the orchestra; a newly commissioned work for our 45th anniversary by local composer Jon Magnussen, HYS ’86 (violin) and kumu hula Michael Pili Pang will debut. We’ll also have a feature on Tadashi Sato’s Aquarius mosaic, recently refurbished in the rotunda of the State Capitol, including a world premiere of Ode to Aquarius, written by Dr. Neil McKay, as a tribute to the restored masterpiece. And we will present two piano concertos by Aloha International Piano Festival competition winners. There will be something for everyone. The concert will be followed by an ALUMNI RECEPTION at Blaisdell. More information to come but be sure to save the date!
