Pacific Music Institute (PMI)
What is PMI?
During the summer, HYS produces the Pacific Music Institute.
Under the direction of Music Director Henry Miyamura, PMI
is an intense program that strives for musical excellence.
This concentrated study course focuses on four different
student ensembles (jazz band, concert band, chamber music
and symphonic orchestra), each of which presents free concerts
for the community at the end of the program. Students engage
in theory and master classes in a musical setting not offered
during the regular HYS season. This one-week music immersion
program is open to local, mainland and international students
in grades 8-12 who demonstrate a minimum level of musicianship
and receive a teacher recommendation.
The following respected music professionals will serve as our 2010 clinicians:
Violin Joan Doike, Helen Liu
Viola Elton Masaki
