ʻAlohi Igarta

ʻAlohi Igarta (they/them) joined the HYS team as Academy String Program Coordinator in August 2025, and as Development Support Specialist in February 2026. Currently residing in Honolulu, ʻAlohi traces their roots to Molokaʻi, Maui, and Moku o Keawe (Hawaiʻi Island), where their kūpuna call home. A proud alum of Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony, ʻAlohi played cello in Concert String Orchestra and rose through the program to perform with Youth Symphony I. Their time in HYS sparked a lifelong love of music. ʻAlohi earned a BA in Communication from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and an MA in Human Sexuality Studies from San Francisco State University. Their work in Hawaiian culture and education has taken them to several local nonprofits, and they continue to volunteer restoring native plants at cultural sites across West Oʻahu.
