PMI Summer Jazz Intensive
June 7 – 13, 2020
Presented in Partnership with ‘Iolani School
PMI is pleased to announce the Summer Jazz Intensive, an exciting new partnership with ‘Iolani School, launching in June 2020. Dean Taba, director of HYS Jazz, and Curtis Abe, director of Iolani School stage bands and combos, brainstormed ways for their respective programs to combine their resources in an effort to provide the highest quality jazz education.
The Summer Jazz Intensive is a week-long program with renowned faculty from the University of Texas at Arlington, notable touring and session musicians, and local legends. The resulting week-long program will allow students from public and private schools, as well as neighbor island and national visitors, to receive expert instruction from more than a dozen notable jazz musicians. Tommy James, Abe Lagrimas Jr., Noel Okimoto, Robert Shinoda, and Steve Treseler, are among the Institute’s star-studded faculty.
This exciting new Summer Jazz Intensive program also provides access to Iolani School’s state-of-the-art rehearsal facilities, new performance opportunities, and more. Because SJI takes place in a separate session that runs several weeks earlier than the other sessions, students can also participate in later sessions like the OLA Wind Ensemble or OLA Symphony Orchestra. Students can also sign up for either morning or afternoon or both jazz sessions!
