Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson is no stranger to the Hawai‘i Youth Symphony ‘ohana. As the proud parent of two HYS alums, she spent many years as a dedicated Concert Parent in our Symphony Program, supporting countless rehearsals and performances. Her deep connection to HYS has given her firsthand experience with the life-changing role music plays in our students’ journeys.

Outside of HYS, Ms. Carlson earned her PhD from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s English Department in 2019 and now serves as chair of the Serials Department and head of the Collection Services Division at UH Mānoa Library. She is also a published scholar, with articles appearing in Marvels and Tales and Serials Librarian, and her research focuses on how access and presentation shape our experiences with life narratives.

We are delighted to welcome Amy back in a new role as Chamber Music Coordinator. With her organizational expertise, enthusiasm, and deep love for HYS, she will provide vital support to our coaches and help our chamber students flourish.
